Makeup Product Dislikes + Fails

3:30:00 PM

I'll be the first to admit that I'm definitely a bit picky when it comes to products. Rather than just having a massive collection of makeup, I like to have quality products I actually use and that work for me. I'm not going to keep around a palette or lipstick that doesn't make me feel confident when I wear it--whether it's patchy shadows, a cakey foundation, or sticky lipgloss. I hate having to return things to the store, but my rule is if it's over $15, I most likely will if I don't like it. And if I don't, I'll probably resell it on an app later. Here are some of the products I have or have had and just couldn't keep.

Kat Von D Ink Liners

I couldn't even finish one eye with either of these. They would go on alright for a little bit then just almost completely stop. The finish was odd, too-- Woolf got an odd white patchy look like certain spots dried lighter.

Urban Decay Shadow Box

This is such a pretty selection, but the color payoff is awful. The shades go on either patchy or lacking pigment. I'm still trying to salvage it and will try with a white shadow base, but who knows. I'm not sure if I can raise this zombie.

Colourpop Gel Liner in DTLA

Yikes, yikes, yikes. First of all, it dried on my brush more often than on my eyes. It was very difficult to work with. Secondly, it flaked off into my eyes during removal and caused some pretty unpleasant irritation. I was worried to use it again for fear of it scratching or harming my eyes.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Echo Park

Definitely the least greatest lipstick I have ever worn. It's extremely dry, to the point of flaking off in heaps. It immediately began coming off at the center and flaking into my mouth, sticking to my teeth over and over again. My lips felt like 3,000 year old papyrus.

Colourpop Shadow in Nillionare

Another Colourpop product that irritated my eyes. The glitter pieces are pretty big and during a wear got into my eye and caused two spots of bad irritation I was worried would be eye scratches. Luckily, it got better once I removed it, washed my face, put in eye drops, and took a bath.

Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow in Mimosa

I dug and dug into this with a brush trying to pick up product, but it just wouldn't apply pigmented to my eyes. A lot of people like MUFE shadows, but I do not.

Make Up For Ever Artist Palette in 1

I took a gamble on MUFE shadows again to much of the same result. The pigmentation isn't great, and the colors have too much shimmery glitter.

Black Moon Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Libra

I was excited to get this then shocked to see how different the color was on me. I'm nearly the same skin tone as their website models (I showed up a bit more tan in my photo on the bottom above) but it looked like a completely different color. It's extremely similar to Kat Von D's Lolita's brown batch. I also found it a bit cakey and caked up a lot at the center.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette

The colors of this definitely didn't work for me. The highlight colors were pretty much transparent, and none of the contour shades worked for my skin tone. It was also moderately difficult to blend.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture (glossy formula)

The taste and smell of this is what I couldn't handle. It's extremely floral, and I could taste alcohol in my mouth when I wore it. This shade is more of a sheer formula which I also wasn't fond of.

Zoeva Rose Gold Palette

Another palette that lacked pigmentation. I just wasn't impressed with it.

Other mentions:
Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Ruby (the lighter shades are great, the dark ones are messy)
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Kat Von D Plan 9 Lipstick (the bullet lipsticks are really hit or miss)
Nars All Day Luminous Foundation (and all Nars foundations for me)

What are your biggest beauty misses and why?
